  • Doug State’s trailer parked just off the main gravel road (from LaRonge) at the entrance to the 4-wheel drive road (to the boat landing). Obviously a lot of rain has made the road sloppy and filled the usually dry depression behind the trailer. All this mud makes handling things like the blue tarp messy, but on the bright side, there wasn’t any dust to contend with.

    Picture 158
    Picture 158
  • Unfortunately, changing a flat tire is also made more difficult by the mud. Jim is just finishing the job.

    Picture 159
    Picture 159
  • Doug and Jim are working on the trailer lights or was the spare tire stored under the back? In any event, this is not how you would like to be spending your time.

  • Jim and Doug are happy to be underway and can relax a bit on the ride to the island. Indian boats at the landing can be seen next to the landing in the background (left of Jim’s hat).

    Picture 165
    Picture 165
  • David and Jessica seem happy too that all the portaging is over. The calm water makes the ride to the island much more pleasant than it might be with high winds.

  • The water level was so high that the crew decided to float the 14’ Lund down the secondary rapids for some fishing in the Intrim Lake. Here David is guiding the boat through the last ripple into the Intrim Lake.

    Picture 181
    Picture 181
  • Jim is holding the bow of the boat. They went through this rapid water with the bow pointed upstream to avoid the back of the boat getting caught in the fast water.

    Picture 182
  • David now thinks the extra work was worth the effort. This is always a favorite fishing spot in high water.

    Picture 183

  • Andy tries his luck from shore. The problem with shore fishing is the difficulty of dealing with the many snags you eventually get.

  • David keeps getting Northerns.

  • Jessica has a firm grip on her Northern. Her pretty nails give only a hint that she was in the Miss Nebraska beauty pageant only three days earlier. Jim watches on.

  • Now Jessica has a walleye. She is a very good fisherman and has no problem handling all her fish very expertly.
